Plans have been submitted to redevelop an empty office building at 110 Canal Street in Bulfinch Crossing into an 82-room hotel.  The plans also include a restaurant on the first floor.  Rhino Capital Advisors acquired the building earlier this year, and seek to spur the revitalization of the Canal Street corridor with this project.  Click here to read more.

The Great American Beer Hall, a 17,000 sq ft tap room with an outdoor beer garden and almost 100 brews on the menu, is coming to 142 Mystic Ave in Medford in late 2024 according to their recent social media announcement.  It will also offer casual American food selections and large screens for watching games, as well as a pickleball court.  You can read more about it here.

Three lots in Hyde Park close to the Readville train station are under consideration as the site of 115 new residential units.  According to plans filed with the Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA), 1690-1700 Hyde Park Ave would be home to studios, one bedroom, two bedroom and three bedroom apartments.  It would consolidate three parcels into one, and 20% of the new residential units would be income restricted.  It would also have 1,500 sq ft of commercial space on the ground floor.  Two other nearby project proposals have already won approval from the City.

Winter in Boston can be hard to get through, especially without trees and plants in bloom.  But there are seven spectacular indoor gardens and greenhouses in the Massachusetts area where everything is green and full of life where you can get your fix - and they are all heated:

1) Botanic Garden of Smith College: it's a bit of a drive, but with over 12,000 square feet of beautiful greenery, banana and cinnamon trees and a waterfall, it's worth it!

2) Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum: the indoor courtyard has a rotating landscape of trees and flowers every few months, and the priceless art is always in season.

3) Lyman Estate Greenhouses: located at the Lyman Estate in Waltham, it is known for its orchids and pink and red winter camellias.

One of the most highly anticipated new construction projects in downtown Boston, Winthrop Center, has just opened The Connector at Winthrop Center, featuring a food hall, The Lineup, with five restaurant concepts by Michelin star chef John Fraser. 

Winthrop Center is one of Boston's tallest buildings and is home to 317 luxury residences as well as 20 floors of commercial and office space, including its anchor tenant, Cambridge Associates, whose global headquarters is sited there.  The Connector at Winthrop Center is a ground floor concourse linking the two at Federal and Devonshire Street, and is open to the public.

Tired of all the rock salt already?  There are several other solutions that are safer for your yard.  

You might not think coarsely grated sand would be much different, but it is actually 100% organic so it won't affect the health of any grass or plants.  If you don't have any, you can actually use coffee grounds or kitty litter for the same affect!

Installing a snow-melting system underneath hardscaping is not as quick of a solution and certainly costs more, but it is the most effective one.  Heated snow-melting mats have the same affect.  

If the weather is above freezing, pouring a gallon of hot water on your steps after snow removal will work as well.

Top designers are forecasting the trends for 2024, and it seems the minimalist style is a thing of the past.  In its place, the Havenly panel says, is patterns contrasted with modern elements.  Other trends they think are on the rise are classic architecture as opposed to modern, minimalist style, performance fabrics, a cottage aesthetic instead of farmhouse, and statement bedrooms.

Over the past 10 years, the Boston luxury residential real estate market has been transformed by new developments like Millennium Tower, Winthrop Center, Echelon Seaport, The Residences at the St. Regis, Raffles, Pier 4 and more.  The city's skyline has been been completely reshaped by these new skyscrapers, and they have put Boston residential real estate within the global rankings of the most valuable real estate in the world.  The construction has been constant, so it's somewhat surprising that it is totally complete everywhere except one building: The Ritz-Carlton Residences at South Station Tower.

A group of commercial property owners in Bulfinch Triangle are working to rezone the under-the-radar neighborhood to allow for taller buildings that will create more housing.  Led by the RMR Group, the focus is on revamping office properties in the neighborhood whose use have been altered by the post-Covid market.  The current zoning, which was last updated in the early 90s, caps building height at 100 feet.  RMR has hired a planner and envisions a more walkable and bike-friendly space that would generate activity all time time, not just dependent on the events at the TD Garden.
